This open call invites artists and creative practitioners based in Austria to develop new work in dialogue with one of 27 local contexts worldwide. Initiated by NeverAtHome in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and the Austrian Cultural Forums, the selected projects will be developed and presented internationally in 2027, culminating in a group exhibition in Vienna in 2028.
NeverAtHome is a nomadic platform for contemporary art based in Vienna. Since 2021, it has transformed vacant and architecturally significant buildings into temporary spaces for artistic production, experimentation and public encounter.
Bringing together studios, exhibitions, workshops, events and international residencies, NeverAtHome does not follow a fixed format. Each location sets its own conditions and each program develops in response to the building, its history and its urban context. Nomadic by nature, NeverAtHome becomes distinctly local wherever it lands, an approach now expanding beyond Vienna through this international project.
Austria Kultur International promotes and connects Austrian artists and scientists abroad. Through the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs’ worldwide network, Austria Kultur International creates opportunities for international cooperation, exchange and long-term partnerships.
For this project, 27 Austrian Cultural Forums collaborate with NeverAtHome to support the development and international presentation of new artistic work.
